Good morning, {{first_name | Hobby Lover}},

Saturdays naturally feel a little slower in the best way. They are often the days when we get a bit more space to try something new, return to something we enjoy, or simply follow our curiosity for a while.

Today, we’re talking about a hobby that’s a little different from the usual ones. It’s creative, social, and often a bit outside our comfort zone, but in a way that can feel surprisingly energizing.

Don’t Be a Bother (Unless You’re Ordering a Sandwich)

Don’t Be a Bother (Unless You’re Ordering a Sandwich)

by Susan Schwiebert

There’s a familiar conversation that happens whenever I go out to eat with certain people in my life. It begins the way most dinner plans do. “What do you feel like having tonight?” “Oh, it doesn’t matter.” “Really, anything is fine.” “You pick.” “Whatever’s easiest.” This is meant to be helpful...

Why Boundaries with Adult Children Are Essential for Your Emotional Health After 50

Have you had this moment – yet? Your children are grown. You’ve spent decades caring, guiding, and showing up in ways that required constant emotional availability. And yet, instead of feeling lighter...

Spring Has Sprung – Now, It’s Time to Focus on Your Balance

Spring Has Sprung – Now, It’s Time to Focus on Your Balance

by Claudine Zuridis

Do you feel cheerful when you notice the signs of spring? Are you enjoying the sight of daffodils, tulips and cherry blossom trees? Do you feel more optimistic with the onset of longer days and milder weather? I don’t know anyone who doesn’t feel happier when they see spring flowers...

✉️ Editor’s Note

There’s something interesting that happens when we give ourselves permission to try something new later in life.

We tend to think hobbies should be relaxing or familiar – and many are. But every now and then, it can be refreshing to step into something that asks a little more of us. Something that gets us thinking, connecting, even laughing at ourselves a bit.

Not because we need to be “good” at it. Just because it brings a different kind of energy into our days.

The Unexpected Joy of Community Theater

Community theater isn’t just for seasoned performers or people who have always loved the stage. In fact, many women discover it much later in life, often by accident, and are surprised by how much they enjoy it.

At its heart, it’s about being part of something shared. You might find yourself reading lines, helping with costumes, working behind the scenes, or simply showing up to be part of the process. There’s room for all kinds of involvement.

What makes it special is the mix of creativity and connection. You’re learning something new, yes, but you’re also meeting people, working together, and stepping into a different role (sometimes literally).

For many, it becomes more than just a hobby. It’s a way to stay mentally active, build confidence, and feel part of a community again. Studies have even shown that creative group activities like theater can support memory, problem-solving, and overall well-being, while also helping people feel more connected and less isolated.

And you don’t have to be “outgoing” to try it. Plenty of roles happen offstage, like lighting, props, organizing, even helping with scripts. Being part of the group is what matters most.

If you’ve ever been curious, this might be one of those things worth exploring, not because you have to commit to it, but because it could open a door to something unexpectedly enjoyable.
